Honoring the King

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."

The only way for your work to endure over time, no matter how small it may seem, is by honoring someone important. And how much more should we think about this, we who serve the King of kings?

I often ask myself, "How can I honor you, Lord?" in a chaotic world where productivity, vanity, and the love of money are foremost in people's hearts.

Consider this historical anecdote: the history of the orange carrot as we know it today. Its popularity is due to Dutch farmers who wanted to pay tribute to their king, William of Orange, after winning the  independence from the Spanish. The king was so pleased with this gesture—cultivating carrots in the color of the royal family, orange—that he promoted their popularity throughout the kingdom and beyond. Thus, what began as an act of honor spread worldwide. It's curious how such a small country is full of so much history.

But let’s return to the main point. We can clearly see that whatever your job, your situation, or your country, what truly matters to the Lord is what you do with what you have in your hands. It can be something as grand as winning your independence from onother kingdom or as simple as planting carrots. The important thing here is to do whatever it is with excellence and to honor the Lord. In this way, you will be sowing and reaping, in due time, an eternal fruit, not only here on earth but also in our eternal home.
